A few years ago I found the answer to the burning question…”Why am I still overweight?” through one of my nutrition classes in school. This particular book finally answered that question for me and gave rise to the consciousness that the BIG FOOD companies don’t really care about our health. We have others at play that have puppeteer-ed the way we eat and interact with food. This makes us eat all kinds of refined not-even-food-double servings designed to cause use to gain weight. This book “The end to Overeating” is an excellent read and is very much the basis for why I wrote the ebook- “Why are you still overweight?”. Weight gain is unique to each one of us but my own experience with weight has taught me so much about weight gain and loss. Through the frustration, I’ve found a few things that would apply to most people when answering this question:
1) Not drinking enough water- Water should be your main drink, vegetable juice coming in a close second. The high amounts of HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) in soda and other drinks
2) Not enough sleep- Your body heals itself and needs rest in order to do so. Lack of sleep not only throws off your normal circadian rhythm but can affect digestion as well as produce high levels of cortisol because of the stress on the body. In due course you end up gaining or holding onto weight. With a sluggish digestion, waste does not move out of your system, and then, you guessed it, you gain weight.
2) Poor digestion – If your body is not breaking down food properly, it can sit and fester and become a breeding ground for bad bacteria, a sluggish digestive system, mal-absorption, and eventually weight gain due to lack of “letting go.”
3) Overeating any kinds of foods – We still live in a calorie counting world and overeating calories will cause weight gain even if it is healthy food. That is why a vegan can be more heavily set confusing the stereotype of vegan=skinny.
4) Unhealthy diet- We all know by now that an unhealthy diet will cause weight gain. Not only that but studies have shown that the onset of diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure are all connected with poor dietary habits.
5) Exercise of course! – I’ve listed this last because it is obviously the one thing we all know. We have to move more often and keep our muscles limber. Exercise reduces risk for many of the diseases that plague us today such as heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer. That is because exercise keeps ups in healthier status to be able to fight off the things that would offend our bodies. It sets us up for the fight. Exercise get things moving and improves digestion too, and we have come full circle on why digestion is so important.
